Eddie Bauer® Polyester Fill Mummy Sleeping Bag Review

I purchased this bag from Target a few months ago. It's a great cold-weather bag, I've used it in temps down to 20F and have been very toasty in this thing. The removable top layer gives you nice flexibility, and can be used to augment your sleeping pad on warmer nights or as a pillow. My only issues are that it's a little too heavy for backpacking (but what do you expect from a $50 bag?), and it doesn't come with a compression sack.

Coleman 30-Inch Propane Distribution Tree Review

Coleman 30 inch Propane Distribution Tree

Our family goes camping about once a month and we found we were going through a lot of those little Coleman propane canisters between our stove and lantern. We have a big propane grill at the house so it seemed logical to use that same bulk canister to power our camping appliances.Very simple to use.My only complaint would be the length. If it was another 24" taller it would get the lantern up higher to illuminate more of the campsite.Otherwise, works as advertised.

Product Description:
With the Coleman 30-inch Distribution Tree, you can attach a single 20-pound refillable propane tank and run three Coleman propane appliances at once! The 30-inch post design lets you mount your camp lantern at the top for area lighting, while operating your grill and stove (or other Coleman appliances) at the same time -- so you don't have to bring along three separate fuel tanks. Coleman Biscayne Large Warm-Weather Sleeping Bag Review

Coleman Biscayne Large Warm-Weather Sleeping Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked this bag up to use as a summer sleeping bag in Northern Michigan and it should be good for that. It's definitely too warm for me above 65 degrees Fahrenheit that's for sure. I'll update soon on how well it performs at 40F as it warms up here in Michigan.

Size: The size appears to be as stated. It's definitely 39" wide. I haven't measured the length, but it easily reaches my face and I'm 6ft 4in tall. The girth(width/circumference) fits me fine(I have a 56" chest FYI)

Construction: This appears to be the only downfall of this bag. The stuff sack(if you can call it that) is flimsy/thin but you can fit the sleeping bag back in it fine as long as you make sure to squish all the air out of the insulation and get it compact as possible. Now the sleeping bag could use some better stitching along the seams. Mine has a spot that was doubled over and looks quite sloppy. It probably slipped through quality control and there probably aren't any more problems like that. The insulation seems to be fairly evenly distributed except at the foot box where it seemed a bit light. I'm not too concerned as I'm using this for a summer bag and nothing below 40F anyhow. The liner is a brushed polyester and is annoying as hell to me as it catches and snags easily on any rough surface(toe nails or even rough/callused skin - wearing socks could counter this I suppose)

Other thoughts: It compacts fairly small for the large dimensions(it is only a warm weather bag after all) and doesn't weigh down my pack much more at all than a regular size bag of comparable temperature rating.Would I buy this again? Yes. It's about the cheapest Big & Tall size bag out there. For the money it's not bad. You can find much better quality bags but I needed something LIGHTWEIGHT & FIT in my backpack's sleeping bag compartment. Try that with the heavier cotton lined/cover bags or even the heavy weight cotton duck/canvas type bags! They're just huge and bulky no matter what AND weigh a TON. Coleman/Amazon offer a few other bags in a slightly lower temperature range with a cotton flannel lining which I think would be a little more comfortable than this but they add a bit of weight too(not to mention unneeded warmth for the summer months). If all else fails with this bag, I can always send it back to Coleman under the 5yr warranty(return shipping costs don't concern me as I get an industry discount but others will want to think about this before purchase)

UPDATE: 3/23/2010: I have been trying this out on my screened in porch a few nights now in the 40's and 50's. You can make it through a night in the mid 40's only if you have a well insulated sleeping pad and are wearing a good layer of insulating clothing(socks, long johns/thermal top, and a light cap). I was on the chilly side but didn't use an insulated pad(my porch is raised about 2 feet of the ground and only has plywood and outdoor carpet to sleep on) and was only wearing boxer shorts to bed. With a nice insulating layer and a sleeping pad you can go down into the 40's without much of a problem. However, if you plan to regularly camp in the 40's you should obviously get a warmer bag. Sleeping bag ratings are always based on using a sleeping pad and what temperature you can sleep in without losing too much of your core temperature, not "how warm you perceive it". Your bag should always be 15-30 degrees warmer than your intended temperature for those "cold snaps". Remember, it's always easier to regulate your bag temperature if you're too warm...not so easy to warm up your bag if you're too cold.

Wenzel 2008 Windy Pass 0-Degree Mummy Sleeping Bag (Black/Red) Review

Wenzel 2008 Windy Pass 0-Degree Mummy Sleeping Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok let me start by saying I'm researching survival stuff (best bang for the buck). The one thing I wanted to let people know is you may get cold at zero degrees or 15 degrees but you will be alive the next day, that is something that people get confused on with sleeping bags. Now, after I got this bag out I climbed inside remembering the previous reviews on ripping fabric I carefully zipped it up and could reall feel the bag heating up. Everything was going fine with a little care until I tried to close the top red part around my head with the pull tie.....it ripped, fabric tore, stitching popped, and I was instantly disappointed because of how a few little odd ends can ruin a great product. The bags tearing in certain areas kills the deal for me, I'll try and repair it but don't have alot of faith it will hold together for future use. Find a better bag to buy guys

Product Description:
Wenzel, the original family camping company, has long felt that next to a quality tent, a good sleeping bag is the most important necessity when it comes to enjoying the camping experience. The 33-by-84-inch (W x H) Windy Pass sleeping bag is an affordable, mummy-style bag rated to a chilly zero degrees Fahrenheit. A built-in drawstring hood helps keep body heat in, and 56-ounces of non-allergenci Omega II polyester fill will keep you toasty throughout the night. A full-length three-inch draft tube and five-inch shoulder collar ensure comfort every evening, and the polyester inner and outer layers feature offset quilt construction for maximum warmth and durability. A self-repairing, two-way zipper with anti-snag tape will hold up over years of heavy use. The Windy Pass includes an Oxford stuff sack that compresses with two elastic straps.
About Wenzel Camping Gear
Wenzel, established in 1887 and originally an outfitter for explorers and pioneers, was one of the first family camping equipment companies in America. It's Wenzel's mission to help families remember the times of 10 miles a day, not 75 miles an hour, to spend time listening to chirping birds and babbling brooks, not pinging instant messages and ringing cell phones.
The company seeks to create the modern tools that families require to escape to and reconnect with the great outdoors. Each Wenzel product is run through a very specialized filter--Wenzel employees' families. Wenzel knows what family camping is like, which is why the company makes tents that are easy to set up and take down, sleeping bags that feel big and cozy but pack small, and pads that smooth out the roughest forest floor. Wenzel strives to be an ambassador to the great outdoors, encouraging families to return to the place where memories are made.
Amazon.com Sleeping Bag Guide
Sleep Well: Finding the Right Sleeping Bag
Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:
Buy for Cold
It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10.
Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. If you're the type who likes to pile on the covers even on warmer nights, go for a bag that's rated ten degrees colder. The opposite is true for "warm" sleepers--a 35-degree bag will probably work for you on a 25-degree night.
Goose or No Goose?
The most important component of any sleeping bag is its insulating material. Modern sleeping bags offer two choices: goose down or synthetic. While both materials have advantages and disadvantages, down bags are considered superior because of their phenomenal warmth-to-weight and warmth-to-bulk ratios. While providing great insulation, down is extremely compressible and light. There's a reason why geese can fly and stay warm through the winter! Down also boasts great long-term durability and will typically retain its insulating properties after years of use.
All of that said, there are many high-quality synthetic bags on the market and synthetic materials are getting better all the time. While a synthetic bag will weigh somewhat more than a down bag at an equivalent temperature rating, synthetic bags perform better when wet. (Yes, the Achilles heel of down is that it loses all insulating properties when wet.) If your trips take you to wet climates, you may want to consider a synthetic bag for this reason alone. Keep in mind, too, that many people are allergic to down--synthetic bags are non-allergenic. Finally, down is considerably more expensive than synthetic, which might tip the balance for adventurers on a budget.
Bags for All Shapes
Sleeping bags come in two basic shapes that reflect their intended use. Mummy-shaped bags offer the best warmth because they conform to the body's contours. This minimizes the amount of body heat the body must put out to maintain a constant temperature. Many mummy bags are offered in women-specific shapes and sizes, as well. Rectangular bags, while they do offer more room to toss and turn, are less thermally efficient because they contain more open air space. Also, they are typically heavier than mummy bags, and are generally not offered with down insulation, making them best suited for car camping or short backpacking trips.
Pad Yourself
No matter what kind of bag you choose, a sleeping pad is a required accessory. Not only do they provide much-needed comfort when sleeping on the ground, pads also offer crucial warmth for your backside, as the weight of your body compresses--and renders virtually useless--the sleeping bag insulation that lies beneath you.

I've slept on a few air mattresses, I live in NYC, were space is a premium. I needed something that could tuck away easily but still be a more comfortable option than the couch.I realized it would have been nice to get an automatic pump versus a hand pump. But, that said, this is an air mattress that you could take car camping.I slept on it, it was comfortable.I think it lost a little air-- but I'm not sure I may have not screwed a cap on tightly enough. It is a great deal for the price, in that it is no less comfortable that the $100plus air mattresses I have slept on.AND-- i used a hair dryer to do the bulk of the blowing up, which was nice.I just use the hand pump for the finishing touch.Fits very compactly into a little storage ottoman (with room for sheets and blankets).I would give it 5 stars except for whether the loss of air was not user error, and the hand pump.

I bought 2 of these tables because they were marked down to $32 at a local store. Both of them came out of the box damaged. They have plastic knobs that are designed to fit into holes on the bottom of the table top. That is how the table top is secured to the bottom legs. On one table, one was broken and on the other, 2 were broken. Also, on one table the metal cross support bars were damaged. The bars are made of aluminum but they are connected to the leg by a cheap piece of plastic. The plastic was broken. If the plastic on these table can't even survive shipping imagine how easily they would break just under normal use. Also, I want to note that the boxes these tables came in had no damage to them.

Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed Review

Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After researching many of the other more expensive, self-inflating air beds, I decided to purchase the Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed for overnight guests. It's less than half the price of an average twin size Aero Bed and much more versatile as it can be configured as two twins, one king, or one double-height twin. You do need to buy a separate pump, but the Coleman pump is inexpensive and can be used for other inflating/deflating purposes (e.g., pool toys, vaccuum storage bags, etc.). Each mattress inflates and deflates in just a couple minutes, and it's quite easy to roll it up for storage. It's comfortable both as a single matress or double height. I ended up buying a second 4-in-1 Quickbed, so now I can accommodate up to 4 overnight guests for less than $100. I can't vouch for how long it will last, but even if it sprung a leak after a couple years of periodic use, it would still be worth it at this low price.

Product Description:
Got unexpected guests? Pull out the inflatable Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed to accommodate one or two guests comfortably. This uniquely designed, two-piece bed can be used in multiple configurations: the two Twin-size beds used separately (for two separate sleepers), zipped together for a King-size bed, or stacked on top of one another (and securely snapped together) for a tall Twin bed. It features Coleman's ComfortSmart coil system that conforms to your body's sleep position and a soft suede top. It also features Coleman's exclusive Wrap 'N' Roll storage system--just roll into attached bag, tie and transport.
This bed is protected by Coleman's Airtight System, featuring a double lock valve (which opens extra wide for quick and easy inflation and deflation) and an exclusive PVC formula that 15 percent more puncture resistant and can stand up to 600 pounds of pressure.

I mean it. That's where most of this thing wound up. In the dumpster.
Poles are even worse than the average these days. You put it up, you'll break it.
Ground cover they supply with it is stronger than toilet paper, but not a lot more. I used it to protect the bottom of an old Coleman tent I borrowed to replace this one. Worth one trip.
I managed to cannabalize the fly, and can use it as a sun break, where trees are many and winds are low.
I got it at Target, you know, "what you see is what we got", marked way down, for less than you'll pay here or other places, I don't know about WalMart or the shadier kind of flea markets.
Eddie Bauer's products are garbage generally. Don't think it's an acceptable alternative to LL Bean, Coleman, Moosejaw etc. Most of their stuff breaks, wears out, disintegrates, leaks, etc. as the case may be. Before you get back from wherever you went.
"Made in China". Everybody does it, right? Who cares about those little old ladies in Maine, right? Nobody, I guess, Mr. Freedman, Mr. Clinton, Mr. Bush. But dang! Can't somebody exercise some quality control?
